There are certain pieces in your wardrobe that will always transcend the trends, and other pieces that come and go with the seasons. As any true fashion girl knows, building a wardrobe that balances both timeless essentials with trend statement pieces is an art. This fall, we’re writing an ode to the classics and building our wardrobes from the bottom up. No matter what trend, print or color palette you’ll be rocking this fall, a classic (and wearable!) heel such as Naturalizer’s Michelle Pump is the one thing you need to bring your fashion-forward look together.

This fall, we’re borrowing style from the boys and making it our own with hints of femininity. A strong menswear look doesn’t have to be completely androgynous from head to toe. By adding a more tapered cropped pant and a classic pumpyou help soften the menswear vibe. Create a modern suit with a longer cut blazer or topcoat in a matching print or texture, such as this Theory plaid ensemble we’re seriously lusting after.

The 70's dominated the latest trends in denim with high-waisted flares and trousers. This fall, go for a clean wash, like these from Stella McCartney, with minimal detailing and something cropped or tucked in to show off your waist. Wear with the Michelle pump in seasonal Bordeaux to create an elongated silhouette and add a print silk scarf for a classic statement. Naturalizer's Bubby faux leather wristlet in Truffle is the perfect addition to go from shopping to cocktails and beyond.

You can reinvent the work wear basics in your closet with a single accessory. Pull out a silk dress, such as this Helmut Lang frock, top it with a structured blazer and simply add a leather waist belt. Knotting the belt is a real silhouette enhancer and looks modern for the workplace. The monochromatic ensemble comes together with Naturalizer’s nude Michelle pump and a structured, yet ladylike satchel like the Charli in Cognac. The shoe’s supreme cushioning will let you rock the leggy look from day-to-night.

Soft powder pink and burgundy is a favorite color pairing for fall and perfect for those transitional months when it’s still warm out. These colors look great on all skin tones and are muted and sophisticated. To dress up a classic shift dress such as this one from Helmut Lang, pull additional solids but look for textures like knits, silk, wool etc. to create variety. Naturalizer's Blokus faux leather crossbody handbag has a chic pony hair panel that will compliment any layered fabrics. Shapes are also key – adding a fashionable color of the season in a modern shape, such as this boxy T Alexander Wang Sweater Dress, is a great way to update you’re your go-to dresses and skirts.

The military trend is one that seems to make it back every season. However, you don’t have to limit yourself to one surplus store shade of olive. Military inspired pieces can be in delicate shapes and work best when the trend is captured in subtle details. Be playful with your color scheme (think mustard, navy and cream) and keep the military piece to a single element.

Rock a solid colored pleated skirt with a navy boat neck sweater adorned with brass buttons to bring the military flair to life. The Michelle Pump in navy rounds out the look and adds some height so you can keep this trend feeling feminine.
